Mar del Plata, ARGENTINA.

I'm Mariano Tomás Di Tonto, DTM Luthier. I first got involved in lutherie thanks to my grandfather, with whom I worked in carpentry since I was 13. It all started when my first bass was stolen, and since I couldn't afford another one, he encouraged me to make one.

A friend lent me one to copy, and it turned out to be something that wasn't very good, obviously, but it worked. Later, I made a left-handed guitar for my brother, and word spread among the musicians.

So I started making all kinds of repairs, which I initially exchanged for tools. Until my first order came in 2007, when the brother of the person who had lent me the bass to copy asked me to make him an instrument on the condition that he would pay me for it.

At that moment, I consider myself officially starting to work as a luthier. Today, I have more than 20 years of experience making instruments. I think that when a craftsman is making a job, he puts a little of his soul or his love for the craft into the instrument. And that's what makes the difference.
