Gustavo Dotas
"I have been a professional guitar player since I was a teenager. At 15 years of age, my father, Néstor Dotas (bandoneonist and Orchestra Director), with great sacrifice bought me an author guitar that I still own. It is a PALM (luthier Pedro A. L. Malosetti built in 1988).
Since then this guitar has accompanied me practically throughout my career. I have sometimes used "industrial" manufactured instruments and some give good results, but they do not compare with an authors instruments, which are unique works of art".
The guitar is an extension of the guitarist, of his hands, of his heart, and a good builder knows this and puts all his knowledge and love into his creations. A few years ago I met luthier Rodolfo Cucculelli in Buenos Aires at a meeting of luthiers and guitarists, and since then a relationship of friendship was born between us.
Currently I performed a series of concerts with some of his guitars that he generously lent me, and I can say that they are wonderful instruments. Each one of them with their own identity. They are alive! I personally recommend that my colleagues play on authors guitars. It is an incomparable experience!".
Guitar concertist, composer, orchestrator, arranger, orchestra and choir conductor, Gustavo Dotas completed the higher teaching of music at the "Grassi Music Conservatory" (Buenos Aires - Argentina), in which he studied with the most outstanding Argentine teachers, obtaining the Titles of Superior Professor of Theory and Solfeggio, and Superior Professor in the Guitar Specialty. At the same time, he perfected the interpretive techniques of Argentine popular music (tango and folklore) with his father, the bandoneonist and conductor Néstor Dotas, and with the notable Maestro Aníbal Arias (guitarist of the great Aníbal Troilo).
He was a professor and music teacher in countless institutions in the country; he conducted and founded orchestras; he created and coordinated educational workshops; he joined musical groups as a guitarist and as a director, performing on various stages in the country and the world; and he is the author of the book “Naturally, Music”, which is used in Argentina by different teachers.
Since 2016 he has been Director of the Guitar Ensemble of the National University of José C. Paz, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
